Cleveland's gun control measure ruling

The lawsuit brought on behalf of gun owners had mixed ruling. Ohio state has preemption laws, yet the city decided to implement its own law.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court ruled that

-city's definition of automatic firearm is unconstitutional
-city's law prohibiting firing a gun within 500 feet of any park, playground or recreational center owned by city exceeded the state law
-city's seizure and confiscation ordinance allowing police to collect weapons from those suspected of drinking or threatening a disturbance violated state carry laws
-cit'y ordinance changing the penalty for defacing a firearm from what the state allows was unconstitutional

-city’s gun lock law is legal
-law requirementing all firearms found on school property be reported to the police is also legal
-the reporting of private gun sales is also legal
-a mandate to report lost or stolen guns is legal
-gun offender registry is legal

Glock 17M

Recently, FBI awarded new pistol contract to Glock and the photograph of the said Glock has hit the internet

The Firearm Blog
Soldier Systems Daily
Guns.com

There were several things FBI wanted in their new pistol, and Glock 17M seems to have met the conditions. According to the info from Primary and Secondary forum,

-Finish is "tougher"
-Traditional lands and grooves rifling, not polygonal.
-Barrel lug is a bit more behind, and the recoil spring assembly is longer, and the notch is reinforced
-Improved trigger similar to G42 or 43
-no finger grooves
-Flared magazine well, and cut in the bottom front of the grip
-magazine lip has more protrusion to the front
-ambidextrous slide lock
-firing pin safety plunger is oblong/rectangular instead of round
-bigger tang

When you looks at some photos, it becomes a bit easier to see some changes.

First, here is the photo of right and left, from Military Arms Channel

The front of grip is not free of grooves that quite a few people did not like. The grooves were added to get the importation points from long ago times. Also, the magazine well has cut in the front. This cut allows shooter to grab the magazine if it gets stuck in the magazine well. This feature has been on G22 for quite a longtime. The serration is not that different from that of Gen 4

Glock also went back to 2 pin set up instead of the 3 pin set up most of Glocks are coming out with these days. The original Glock design had 2 pin setup, one just above the trigger guard to hold locking lug, one in the back to hold the trigger group

Glocks are known for their polyognal barrel, but for some reason 17M uses traditional rifling.

17M barrel on the left shows slightly recessed barrel lug.

Inside of the slide, you can see firing pin safety plunger looking rather longer than usual design.

And now inside the frame. The most prominent change is addition of slide lock on the right. It was one of the requirements for FBI contract, and Glock managed to find a way to add that. Notice the bar for the right slide lock is close to trigger bar. This probably moved the trigger bar inwards a bit, and necessiated the newly designed safety plunger.

It is hard to tell if the slide lock is an one piece part or not, but it won't be surprising if it is. It also raises question of the new barrel lug's position. Could the barrel lug had to be moved due to the new design?

According to Military Arms Channel, the magazine is slightly different previous Glock magazines, but older magazines still work well for 17M

Glock is not really known for setting trend in recent years. The company had to be dragged in to making interchangable backstrap design, and if it weren't for the FBI contract, this gun probably would not have been designed.

Currently, there is no words on when this will be available on the market, or even if it will have the same features. The Firearm Blog reports that the 'Gen 5' is in process of being trademarked by Glock.

Korean K2C1 rifle photo

Korean Military started to get some limited numbers of updated service rifle named K2C1. The most notable change is use of Picatinny rail on top and there are holes for what is assumed to be optional rail system attachment on the side. Rear sight seems to be a detachable variant, similar to M249 sight.

Other improvement is collapsible and folding stock. K2's original stock was a fixed folding stock, but K2C1 seems to have M4-style collapsible stock.

An internediate version of the rifle was witnessed in Iraq last year or so, but it lacked the Picatinny rail system.

GNB: Vickers Tactical Grip Plug/Takedown tool

Glock has numbers of modification parts available and there are plenty of competing products for similar, if not same functions. One of things that are not exactly on the top of the list - but can be done easily - is inserting a plug in to Glock's grip. By placing a plug, dirt won't get in, as well as improving magazine reload.

For Gen 3 guns, this can be done by numerous grip plugs. The most recent one is Vickers Tactical Grip Plug/Takedown tool

When you install the plug, it protrudes a little from the grip.

With a factory magazine inserted, there might be a few millimeters of difference between the bottom of magazine and grip plug, but it is so minute.

With magazines that have Vickers Glock Magazine plate, it is even.

So when you insert magazine, there is no chance that it will hurt your delicate palm.

There were no problems while performing some reloading drills. Some people might be bothered by the protrusion, but functionality comes before aesthetics.

Compared to my Jentra grip plug, there are some differences between the two.
Jentra on top, Vickers on bottom

With Jentra plug, there is a small offset between the back wall of the magazine well and end of the plug. This has never been a problem, and don't think it will be, but Vickers Grip plug leads up to the edge of the magazine well more naturally.
Jentra on top, Vickers in bottom

Vickers Grip Plug added enough extra length to the grip to make it feel almost like a Glock 17 grip on my Glock 19. If someone wants the stock Glock 19 grip length(for CCW purpsoe), this plug may not be the person's choice, but for those who don't worry about it, it won't be an issue.

There has to be some advantage over other competing products such as Jentra(around $7), Ghost(around $9), and Pearce. One of such advantage is the built-in aluminum takedown tool. This is not the first of its kind. PSI Tac-Rac plug-tool has been around for sometime, but Vickers Grip Plug brings more to the table than take down tool.

The most pronounced feature is that this tool can be easily pulled out from the grip. Most of the competing products offer flush fit which forces users to use other pointy tools to take out the plug if needed. Vickers Grip Plug protrudes enough for quick and easy access just by using Glock magazine. In fact, Tangodown specifically warns about using pointy objects to take the plug out.

Overall, I think this is a very good addition for those who will occasionally need a field expedient work. Instead of carrying a Glock Armorer Tool, this plug does multiple functions(block dirt from getting in, magazine insertion help, and armorer tool) at once.

Self-Defense Ammo: Ballistic Gel Test Update

Lucky Ammo had a good test comparing different ammos, and now they updated the list with a few more ammunitions in .380, 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP

While the list is probably the most exptensive for general viewing, there has been some criticism due to a few things, which are addressed in the new video that came with the update. Two most critical point would be the type of gellatin used, and use of shorter barrel pistols.
