Thoughts on appendix carry

Recently there was a bruhaha when Larry Vickers and Mike Pannone banned AIWB carry from their open classes(public classes). This came after some incidents and it was probably not the only two cases involving the AIWB carry.

The major problem with the AIWB is that in case of a mistake, bullets can travel through important areas, much more than the traditional belt carry. Your penile region is located nearby, and femoral artery is not that far away. Compared to that, traditional carry at 3 o'clock has less chance of hitting vital areas.

The pros of carrying AIWB are,
- excellent placement for fast draw
- good concealment

Cons are.
- not the best for several body types
- bigger injury in case of negligent discharge

There are ways to mitigate some issues regarding comfort and it involves some experiment with holster and its placement. If the AIWB method works well for you then it should not be discouraged, provided you are capable of not hurting yourself.

However, there are some differences one should consider before getting indignant about  AWIB ban in classes. In traning classes, a shooter will holster multiple times during the tranining. In case someone uses their CCW, they will most likely holster once or only a few times.

As number of repetition increases, complacency sips in. It is the instructor's job to make sure students are safely handling guns. But it is also(if not more) important that the student is aware of his action. Unfortunately, chances of Mr. Darwin visiting increases with repetition.

Appendix carry has been around for a long time. It is not something that came out of thin air. However, considering there were a lot more of side carry instead of appendix carry, one has to wonder why.

Interesting magazine failure

A handgun's magazine is one of parts that cannot be taken for granted. In any semi auto, issues with magazines usually end up being a serious malfunction.

Here's an example of rare example of magazine failure. In this photo, it seems everything is ok.

But the magazine fails to push cartridges up. Sprig is fine. Why is this happening?

One round is stuck at the bottom. There were no sticky substance involved here. But why?

It's because  there is a small dent in one of witness holes. Some time ago, an object fell on this magazine and dent that exat spot.

Being a 1911 single stack magazine, there is little room for cartriges to move around, and that small dent, a few millimeters deep, caused this.

This is a really rare case and it is reasonable to say it is not a typical failure. Nonetheless, it shows that things can happen and magazines should not be taken for granted.

SureFire announces P2X with Intellibeam Technology

SureFire is now announcing their P2XIB, which auto-adjusts light amount to surrounding. This is a very nice feature that adjusts lights from 15 lumens to 600 lumens.

During the SHOT show it was one of items that looked promising. When light users go from one area to the next, having this kind of auto adjustment can reduce light splashing back in full force. Going from outside to inside and vice versa means light output has to be adjusted and this would be a good step towards it.

Price is $229

Nevada law changes

Nevada state passed and governor signed SB 175 which addresses certain issues pertaining to firearms regulation

This bill now allows Legislature of Nevada to have more power on regulation over use of force and licensing of firearms.

Section 7 of the law now assumes those who use lethal force inside of vehicle get the same presumption of innocence as defending his home, which means a civil lawsuit cannot be brought unless there is a clear overwhelmingly convincing evidence to the contrary.

Furthermore, state now has power to regulate the transfer, sale, purchase, possession, ownership, transportation, registration and licensing of firearms and ammunition in this State, and further provides that no county, city or town may infringe upon those rights and powers. Any subdivision of Nevada must repeal regulations that do not conform.

This will make Clark County's handgun registration void.
