Steel target safety
Shooting Wire reposted an article on how far shooter should be from steel target.
Link: http://www.shootingwire.com/features/228859
From personal experience 10 yards seems to be safe distance for pistol caliber using FMJ ammunition, while 25 yards seems to be minimum for carbines. It is assumed that the steel targets do not have dimples.

From past experience, this may not be the detailed explanation. LAV's basic pistol class is not NRA basic class. It is about use of firearms for serious use. Participants must be switched on and comfortable with operation of firearm.

MAC: Choosing home defense gun
MAC's series on how to choose a gun for home defense.
However there are some points to argue about.
MAC thinks having a weapon mounted light is not recommended for a standard civilian. He is worried about user flashing children and etcetera, thus pointing the gun at some one who shouldn't be muzzled.
This is a valid concern, but at the same time this should be a reason for getting some training. You don't need to directly flash someone to identify who they are. You can 'bounce off' light by shining floor, walll, or ceiling. Most weapon mounted lights have enough spread so it can be used to identify without muzzling someone.
But this does require some training which unfortnately is missed by some segment of gun owners.
If there is one more thing to add, it's a good tritium sight. Fiber optics may work, but if you need some night time sight picture, nothing beats tritium sight.

Trijicon World Shooting Championship rules posted
Trijicon WSC posted the rules for upcoming competition. Firearm choices and description of stages are given, and some stages have really long distances(1500 yard to a mile with a rifle) even for a pistol(200 yards). There are stages with single-action revolver, too.
Scoring generally follows rules set by IDPA, USPSA, and other shooting sports.
This competition could turn out to be a very interesting one. The challenge is to be able to use all kinds of firearms and the winning competitior should be someone who has all-around experience.
Some years ago, one of cable TV shooting show did a similar competition and winner was Jeery Miculek. This time it is hard to tell, but Taran Butler might give Jerry a hard time.

KAC SR-47 - Knight's developed this rifle for SOF in late 2001 using AR mechanism but take 7.62X39 ammunition. According to the SSD military seems to be interested in this gun again. They also have a Stoner rifle, but it seems like they are really tight lipped about it

Why 3D printed gun is not practical
Barnacules Nerdgasm took time to print out an AR lower and explained why it is possible but not practical to produce a fully 3D printer made rifle. The cost to make a lower with a plastic 3D printer is far higher than making one with an aluminum block and milling machine, not to mention aluminum is a lot more durable.
