LASD acquires M&P(again)

Smith & Wesson announced that Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department will be getting M&P pistol for duty. The guns from this 5-year contract will be used to replace current non-S&W duty guns.

This is not the first time LASD is using M&Ps. A few years ago, they were adopting M&P. However there were some problems during academy when a barrel broke. There were some rumors that someone did a dremel job on the barrel and that lead to problems.

USMC Combat Pistol Program video

This is a training video for the new Combat Pistol Program USMC is adopting.

Judging by this video there is a need for change in one part. During the Failure to stop drill(2:30), shooter scans behind/left/right after firing the control pair, then goes for the head/CNS.

The reason for this drill(originally known as Mozambique) was to stop the threat when controlled pair wasn't sufficient. If the controlled pair did not stop the threat there is no need to scan left/right since the threat is still there. It is better to aim for head/CNS than wasting time on scanning.

Another thing to consider is the scanning left/right, 360 degrees. It is a useful technique to break tunnel vision as well as spot more potential threat, but it also can be another movement shooters will do without much thought, instead of really checking what is behind.

In the Failure to stop drill, it seems like it is a default move after the controlled pair. It may be seen as a uniform way to incorporate scanning motion, but could lead to training scar where shooter fires just the controlled pair and scans. It is a bit far-fetched but Mr. Murphy rears its ugly head in an unfortunate time.

GNB: Inforce APL review

Inforce APL is the latest weapon light to hit the market. It emits 200 lumens which is a bit less than comparable offerings from other companies(Surefire and Streamlight), but it seems to safely position itself in the market.

According to Inforce, APL runs 1.5 hours, with only one CR123 battery. More over it only weighs 2.8oz, adding very little to the weight of the gun. This is possibly the lightest weapon light I've used in a while.

The box it comes in is a simple white box that contains the light itself(and one battery), user manual, hex key, two screws, and one MIL-STD-1913 rail. The light already comes with Universal rail. (Note: This light can not be mounted on Beretta PX4 or H&K USP)

Inforce WML lumen upgrade

Inforce announced that the WML White/IR will now emit 175 lumens(from 125 earlier) and WML White 200 lumens(from 125 lumens)
